One way you can help make sure consumers are informed about the risks of mercury is to tell your grocer to post a sign anywhere swordfish, tuna, shark, tilefish or king mackerel is sold. If you do that, please write and let us know what happened.
Here are some stories about how some Oceana WaveMakers used these signs to help spread the word about mercury contamination.
“I took the poster over to Albertsons here in Lafayette, LA. I printed it smaller, about 5X7, on bright yellow paper, and had added at the top before I printed it ‘We care about your health.’ Then I laminated it.”
“I gave it to the store manager and he seemed very pleased and grateful. He even commented how easy I was making it for him. He said that of course he would have to check with corporate before he put it up. I asked if I could call him and see what they said, and if they said yes, I would take similar posters to the other four Albertsons in town. So in a few days I'll check with him. Here's hoping and praying!!”
God bless you,
Anne
“Hi again, it is me, here in Tucson. I printed out the flyer for my preschool, and then also sent it to all the public health nursing offices in town. One called and asked me if the Mercury Advisory poster is available in Spanish, too? Please let me know, for it will get widely used here if it is.”
Thanks, Nancy
Thanks for making the EPA/FDA fish advisory notice available. I own a very busy Chiropractic office, and I put the notice on our bulletin board. On the very first day a lot of people asked me about it. A lot of people have not heard about this warning and it should be on the labels of each package or can of fish. Until it is, I will keep putting the word out.
Yours in health,
Dr. Matt
