Oceana urges shoppers to support companies that care about their customers' health. A number of major retailers care enough to post the FDA mercury advice at their seafood counters and are on Oceana's Green List. Yet many grocery companies still are not taking the simple step of posting the mercury advice at their seafood counters.
We need to let them know this is important and that we support companies that watch out for shoppers' best interest. So take the pledge to support Green List stores!
The FDA and EPA have issued an advisory directing women of child-bearing age and children to avoid or limit consumption of certain fish because of high levels of mercury. Unfortunately, this warning is not well-publicized.
Sign our open letter to FDA Commissioner Dr. Andrew C. von Eschenbach today and tell him that consumers need more information about the risks posed by mercury contamination in seafood, not less!

Oceana is partnering with Greenpeace in a national hair-testing study to find out how much mercury is in people's systems. Thousands of people are already participating. Find it how much mercury you are carrying around with you and how that compares to federally accepted levels of concern!
