25th - Oceana sends a letter to multiple major grocery companies in the United States urging them to display a sign with the FDA advice about mercury in seafood at seafood counters.
August 2005
2nd - Oceana Campaign Director Contacts Albertsons Director of Corporate Communications, Shannon Bennet. Bennett states that Albertsons will have brochures only. We received a copy of the brochure a few days later.
September 2005
15th - Released Fair Warning report in conjunction with the Mercury Policy Project, Women's Voices for the Earth, Clean Water Action and the New England Zero Mercury Campaign. The report tested swordfish and tuna, at Albertsons, Shaw's, Safeway and Whole Foods.
28th - Oceana and gotmercury.org run a full page ad in the New York Times, calling on companies, namely Safeway, Albertsons, Giant, and Whole Foods, to warn all families about mercury in seafood, not just those in California.
January 2006
24th - Albertsons announces it is to be sold to a consortium of investors with SuperValu, Inc. receiving 1124 grocery stores and Cerberus acquiring 655 stores.
26th - 27th Oceana sends a follow up letter to Albertsons CEO Larry Johnston inviting the company to join Wild Oats in posting the FDA advice at seafood counters.
February 2006
13th - WVE sends a letter to Larry Johnston, CEO of Albertsons requesting a response to the letter send earlier. The letter was copied to Jeffrey Noddle, CEO of SuperValu. Again, no response was received.
23rd - Oceana receives a letter from Albertsons Director of Corporate Communications, Shannon Bennett, responding to our January letter to the CEO, indicating the company has printed brochures with the FDA advice but will not post signs.
March 2006
23th - WVE spoke with Chip Cole of Albertsons. He states that the FDA is not requiring a warning on the fish cases. He says he is not in a position of authority given the SuperValu acquisition. He neglected to give us a written statement. He put WVE in touch with Steve Kilgriff, the legal representative for SuperValu.

13th - WVE sent a letter to Steve Kilgriff at SuperValu, requesting a formal response by May 1, 2006. No response was received.
25th - Victory! Oceana receives confirmation that Safeway grocery companies will post the FDA advice.
May 2006
11th - WVE hears from Tom Darling of SuperValu. He would not agree to anything and asked to see the Safeway sign. WVE sent him a follow-up letter which included the Safeway sign.
June 2006
20th - Victory! Whole Foods grocery company commits to posting signs at seafood counters concerning mercury.
21st - Oceana launches the Green List

27th - WVE sent a letter to Tom Darling of SuperValu, requested written reply by August 4.
August 2006
3rd - WVE received a letter from Haley Meyer, Corporate Communications at Albertsons/SuperValu. States that they are reviewing policies and are in compliance with all applicable laws.
September 2006
23rd - WVE holds actions at Albertsons stores in Missoula and Boise. Over 20 women attend each event to demand warning signs. Women present letters to local store managers requesting signs in their stores, and asking them to contact headquarters on their behalf.
29th - Victory! Trader Joe's announces it will post the FDA warning signs and gets placed on the Green List
November 2006
20th - Victory! Oceana and WVE confirm that the SuperValu owned Albertsons and Albertsons subsidiaries will begin posting the FDA advice about mercury in seafood.
21st - Oceana publishes Vital Signs: The Status of Mercury Warning Signs in U.S. Grocery Stores.
April 2007
21-22nd - Oceana attends Chicago's first Green Festival. Fifteen wave-maker volunteers helped at the booth to get over 400 comment letters to grocery stores not posting the FDA advice about mercury in seafood.
August 2007
16th - Oceana gets a piece published in the Pittsburgh City Paper focusing on outdoor advertising firms rejecting our billboards and bus shelter ads targeting Giant Eagle.
October 2007
20th - Oceana launches its Toxic Tuna Tour with the tuna prop in front of the Washington Monument. Over 100 comment cards are completed to send to Giant requesting that the grocery store post the FDA's advice about mercury.
January 2008
23rd - Oceana publishes the results of Hold the Mercury, a report documenting mercury levels in swordfish, fresh tuna, tilapia and mackerel from grocery stores and sushi restaurants. The report found high mercury levels in fresh tuna and swordfish. Seafood counter attendants were also asked what the FDA advice about mercury in seafood was, with nearly 90 percent of attendants being unable to provide the information or providing incorrect information.
24th - Victory! Oceana announces that Kroger and Harris Teeter grocery companies move to the Green List due to their recent policies of posting the FDA advice about mercury in seafood.
