A Few Companies Are Leading the Way

Currently four companies are posting signs about the FDA mercury advice in all of their stores: Safeway, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Wild Oats. Congratulations to these companies for leading this important movement. We hope that other companies will soon follow in the movement to inform shoppers about choosing low mercury fish for their families.

Safeway

Safeway is posting signs in all of its 1600 stores, including its 8 subsidiaries, Carrs, Dominick's, Genuardi's, Pak 'n Save, Pavillions, Randalls, Tom Thumb and Vons.

Whole Foods

Whole Foods Markets began posting the FDA advice at its seafood counters across the country on September 1st, 2006.  The more than 175 stores it operates are a welcome addition to the Green List.

Wild Oats

Oceana honored
Wild Oats for being the first company to post the FDA advice at all of its seafood counters to educate their customers about the dangers of mercury in seafood. Wild Oats was presented with the Ted Danson Ocean Hero Award in October, 2005. Click here to see the Wild Oats sign.

California Warning Sign

Because of Proposition 65, California's Right to Know law, stores are required to post signs like these at their seafood counters.
