The State of the World's Fisheries

On May 24, 2007 Andrew Sharpless, CEO of Oceana, and Dr. Rashid Sumaila, Director of the Fisheries Economic Research Unit at the University of British Columbia Fisheries Centre and co-author of Catching More Bait: A Bottom-up Re-estimation of Global Fisheries Subsidies, joined together to brief WTO delegates in Geneva on the state of the world's fisheries. Their presentations combine scientific and economic expertise to make a compelling argument about the dire state of the oceans and the need to take action to save them. Our oceans are at a tipping point, the most effective way to change course and salvage our fisheries is through the elimination of fisheries subsidies by the WTO.
