Oceana is seeking a Policy Adviser to join our team to develop advocacy strategies and activities for our European campaigns on fisheries and marine conservation issues.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in fisheries science, economics, ecology or a related discipline, and at least 3 years experience in policy and/or campaign work, preferably in fisheries, marine or environmental issues in the European Union. The position requires strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
The successful candidate will be able to think strategically, be self motivated and with the ability to work under pressure. Oceana is a multicultural and multi organizational NGO, therefore strong skills for team building and networking are required.
Fluency in English is essential, as well as in at least one other European language.
Willingness to travel required.

A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT ILLEGAL DRIFTNETS
Oceana in the documentary made by the producer EarthOcean about illegal drifnetters in the Mediterranean Sea. The video includes an interview with Xavier Pastor, Oceana’s Director for Europe, and also images of illegal driftnetters recorded during the expeditions on board the catamaran Oceana Ranger. Driftnets are banned since 2002 because they represent a major threat for the conservation of endangered species such as marine turtles and cetaceans.
