How can we reduce global warming pollution?

It is essential that the governments of the world recognize the effects of global warming pollution on the environment and act to curb these emissions immediately. The United States, as one of the largest producers of these pollutants, has a responsibility to act quickly and be a world leader in fighting global warming.

Companies and individuals also have a responsibility to be part of the solution. Dramatically cutting our carbon dioxide emissions, particularly from power plants and vehicles, is the most important way to allow the Earth's natural systems to come back into balance and to avoid some of the destructive impacts that have already started to occur. Companies can be part of the solution in many ways. Some of these include developing cleaner technologies, promoting energy efficiency in their offices and providing incentives to customers for energy efficient purchases. Individuals can tell elected officials and companies that it is time to act to stop global warming by voting and by making conscientious purchases. Every one of us can start making changes in our lives that benefit the planet, cutting our carbon emissions can start with something as easy as switching off a light.

Heavy Extinction Risk for King Penguins

Climate change strikes again - this time, King Penguins.  With temperatures projected to increase in the Antarctic by 0.4ºC over the next two decades, King Penguins' chances of survival have dropped by 15%.  King Penguins feed on small fish and squid, which subsequently are declining because of warming in the Southern Ocean.  These penguins inhabit islands to the north of Antarctica, but warming temperatures are diminishing their food supply and forcing them to travel further in search for something to eat.  This extra effort, in turn, is taking its toll on their overall health and ability to survive.  Temperature increases jeopardize the future wellbeing of this species, and only time will tell if the King Penguin will be able to cope with the stresses of climate change.
